Precious Plastic is a project trying to boost plastic recycling worldwide by providing tools and knowledge to people around the world free of charge.  The Glenn Family Foundation aims to install a fully-functional Precious Plastic Workshop in a number of nations throughout the Caribbean starting with Trinidad and Tobago before expanding to Guyana, Jamaica and Barbados.

Introductory Video on Precious Plastic™ by creator and coordinator, Dutch entrepreneur Dave Hakkens.  The blueprints for the Precious Plastic™ workshop and plastic-smithing custom tools, along with instructional videos and information about plastic-smithing are available open-source via https://preciousplastic.com/.  Hakkens' intent is to make the ability to turn plastic waste into valuable things accessible to any individual worldwide.

PLASTIC POLLUTION IN THE WEST INDIES

The use of single-use plastics throughout the Caribbean and Central American region continues to be rampant and recalcitrant.  Many of our otherwise impeccable beaches have been increasingly freighted and debased by non-biodegradable litter.  Our wildlife, particularly our marine life, must contend with micro-plastic posing as vittles.  Our roads resound with the pops and cracks of vehicles perpetually driving over unavoidable bottles.  Plastic bags float through the air more numerous than birds.  Not to mention the toxins released into our air, soil and water when these ubiquitous plastics invariably end up in our landfills and solid waste incinerators.

In the interest of our action area of environmental stewardship, the Glenn Family Foundation team is committed to facilitating the introduction of Precious plastic Workshops throughout the West Indies.  We aim to partner with active community members and local organizations to make the workshop very much so a community space where everyone is welcome to create useful, valuable and beautiful things from plastic for sale or for their own personal usage.

Once the Glenn Family Foundation is able to purchase the necessary materials and collaborate with local stakeholders to construct the workshops, all of these tools will be available for supervised public usage.
